Pacuare Lodge - ABOUT US
Pacuare Lodge is a division of Aventuras Naturales which is licensed by the Costa Rica Tourism Bureau - Registry Nº 3830
From the beginning, the Pacuare Lodge has been actively managed by Aventuras Naturales, Costa Rica’s premier adventure tour operator. Founded in 1986, our company is one of the oldest and most respected tour operators in Costa Rica. A pioneer in the field of adventure travel, we offer a wide variety of services that include hotel accommodation, car rentals, white water rafting and some of the finest tours this country has to offer. Additionally, we specialize in customized itineraries that include everything from thrilling canopy adventures to romantic honeymoon escapades, specifically catered to our customer’s needs, interests and budget. We are fully licensed by the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism, and our products and services are backed by years of experience working with a wide range of discerning customers. We pride ourselves on quality tours that stand above the majority of adventure tours offered in Costa Rica, on exceeding our customer’s expectations, and ensuring that every tour is entertaining, informative and utterly unique.
In Harmony With Nature
The Pacuare Lodge was built with a minimum impact on the river and rainforest site where it is located. Lanterns and candles provide light, as there is no electricity at the lodge. No trees were cut to build the bungalows and main lodge. Lumber was purchased from a sustainable reforestation project operated by small farmers. The roofs are made from palm leaves installed by Cabecar Indians living in the area using their traditional style. Aventuras Naturales was the first adventure travel company to acquire parcels of primary forest in this area solely for the purpose of conservation Over the years, we’ve purchased 340 hectares (840 acres) of primary rain forest along the Pacuare River for conservation and in order to offset the atmospheric carbon created by our vehicles, which makes our tours carbon-neutral.
More Than Tourism
We believe responsible tourism should benefit and respect local communities. Our Community Support Program works directly with the people and institutions in communities near the Pacuare River put-in and our lodge. Infrastructure in these isolated areas is scarce and poorly maintained by the government. We also accept donations for the schools, which are transferred in their entirety to the school boards (no administrative or other fees are deducted), who use the funds for much-needed materials and student services. For larger donations by people going on one of our overnight Pacuare trips, we will arrange a personal visit on horseback to the Bajo del Tigre School to meet the teacher and schoolchildren.
Our Professional Staff
A spirit of adventure and true concern for the environment are just two of the driving forces of the staff at Aventuras Naturales. Our bilingual guides embody this spirit of adventure and demonstrate their concern for our precious environment on every trip to the wilds of Costa Rica’s tropical rainforests, pristine beaches and beautiful rivers. They are some of the best in the field, highly experienced, professional guides who are certified in first aid, CPR and swift-water rescue training. Many of our guides have additional certifications such as wilderness first aid and wilderness first responder. Our professional office staff can develop custom programs and itineraries to meet the needs of the most demanding clients, whether couples or larger groups.
Safety Comes First
Safety is our primary concern, and we spare no effort to provide the highest quality standards and equipment, while striving for the most enjoyable experience possible. Our excellent track record reflects this profound concern for the safety of our guests. Our bilingual guides instruct guests on all safety measures before each trip, and a fully stocked first aid kit is available at all times. Aventuras Naturales reserves the right to cancel any trip or change rafting trips to an alternative river or section because of weather, unsafe water conditions or any other circumstances that could endanger the safety of our guests and guides.
Maximum accommodation capacity at the Pacuare Lodge is 38 with double occupancy, or 57 with triple occupancy.
Our Costa Rica offices are located on 5th Avenue, between 33 and 35 streets. We are open year-round Monday to Friday from 6am to 6:30pm / Saturdays 7:00am to 3pm & Sundays 7am to 1pm.
